The first-season finale brought in 3.6 million viewers. The second-season finale pulled in over 5.6 million viewers, at which time a spin-off Teen Mom 2 was announced for January 11, 2011. In December 2015, it was announced via the Teen Mom OG Facebook page that the show was back for a sixth season, and featured a trailer for the upcoming season, with it being set to premiere on January 4, 2016. In December 2016, Portwood announced her decision to quit the series, citing what she felt was “unfair treatment” following the sixth season's finale and reunion shows; despite this, Portwood returned to the series for its seventh season, which premiered in April 2017. In March 2018, Abraham went ahead with her adult webcam show, and producers decided to cut ties with her. Abraham was not featured for the rest of the season and is off of the series.
